Police hunt for suspects responsible for gruesome Athurugiriya murder

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the gruesome murder of the businesswoman from Athurugiriya, and arrest the perpetrators.

Police said that a businesswoman who was operating a furniture shop in the Athurugiriya Town was stabbed and killed on Tuesday (2) evening.

A 52-year-old employee at the furniture shop was brutally assaulted and was admitted to the National Hospital in Colombo for treatment.

The victim of the murder was a 62-year-old woman, and according to Sri Lanka Police serious injuries were inflicted to her jaw, and several other parts of her body.

The Kaduwela Magistrate conducted the judicial inquiry on Wednesday (3) morning, following which the remains were moved to the Homagama Hospital.

According to sources, no cash or valuables were stolen from the premises. A police investigation is underway to locate and arrest the killers.
