Nine people injured following ugly scuffle, shooting in Colombo

COLOMBO (News 1st); Nine people were injured and hospitalized following a shooting close to Gate 6 of the Colombo Harbour. 

Sri Lanka Police said that a security officer attached to a private security firm stationed at a road development site had opened fire.

It was reported that an attempt was made to interrogate two men who had entered the premises to steal construction material, and the situation turned ugly when local residents entered the premises. 

Subsequently, a firearm issued to the private security firm had been snatched, and the security officer had opened fire at that moment. 

A group from Bloemendhal, Colombo, was injured in the incident, and among them were four women.

One woman was discharged from the hospital after obtaining treatment.

A police investigation is underway into the incident.
