CID calls for report over officers involved in Mahara Prison shooting

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Criminal Investigation Department has informed the Department of Prisons to submit a report regarding the officers involved in the shooting that took place at the Mahara Prison.

A senior officer of the CID says the Attorney General has issued orders to arrest the relevant officers.

The officer says further investigations will be carried out based on the directives of the Inspector General of Police.

In 2020, 11 prisoners were killed in a shooting within the Mahara Prison during a protest staged by the inmates, based on several demands.
