Chamara & USD 250 Mn : The X-Press Pearl Bribe

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's Minister of Justice, Prisons Affairs and Constitutional Reforms Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, PC revealed the name of the person who was given a bribe of USD 250 Million to allegedly delay lawsuits from the Sri Lankan government over the X-Press Pearl maritime disaster.

"I will reveal to the Parliament a piece of information, and I will not claim responsibility for this. I am not sure if this is a piece of evidence or not. Sri Lanka Police can investigate and determine if this is evidence or not," he told the Parliament.

The Minister said that USD 250 million had been transferred to Natwest Premier 5000 Pounds Account of a person under the name of Chamara Gunasekara.

Minister Rajapakse told Parliament that USD 250 Million was credited to the bank account of Chamara Gunasekera as a bribe to prevent the Sri Lanka government from securing damages over the X-Press Pearl ship disaster.
