Exams Dept. to hold talks over A/Level paper marking

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Examinations said a special discussion will be held on Monday (24) regarding the evaluation of answer scripts of the 2022 A/Level examination.

Examinations Commissioner General Amith Jayasundara said the paper marking supervisors have been called to the Department for this purpose.

He added that the practical exams related to the subjects of Home Economics, Carnatic music, Drama and Performing Arts in the Sinhala, Tamil and English mediums have been completed thus far.

The Commissioner General of Examinations said steps will be taken to conduct the practical exams for the subjects of Dancing, Bharatanatyam, and oriental music as soon as possible.

Meanwhile the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka said it commenced a special investigation regarding the delay in the marking of the A/Level answer scripts.

The Commission said relevant parties will be invited to inquire about the matter over the coming days.

Spokesman of the Federation of University Teachers' Associations (FUTA) Senior Lecturer Charudaththe Illangasinghe said they can consider joining the evaluation of answer scripts if they receive favourable responses to their demands.

Prof. Illangasinghe said they are of the stance that paper marking must be completed promptly for the sake of the children's future.

He said however the government has failed to provide a solution and urged the government to provide a favourable response promptly.

He added that FUTA will meet on Tuesday (25) to discuss ongoing trade union action and the current situation.
