COLOMBO (News 1st) - A self-funded team of 12 women from across the world are set to trek across the Knuckles Mountain Range of Sri Lanka, a UNESCO world heritage site.

They aim to raise awareness and funds for the economic empowerment of women affected by climate change in Sri Lanka.

On day one of their adventures, the team trekked a total of 15 km from Elkaduwa to Madulkelle on Wednesday (19).

The team plans to cover a total distance of 150km - 100 km on foot in four days and 50km on bike - and summit Gombaniya, the highest peak of the range, as the largest all-female team to ever attempt this route.
