Sri Lanka's economy controlled from Washington - Cabraal

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's Former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal said that Sri Lanka's economy is being controlled from Washington.

He was responding to a question on the funding facility provided by the International Monetary Fund while exiting court on Thursday (6) afternoon.

Noting that he read 151 pages of the IMF report on Sri Lanka's Extended Fund Facility, Cabraal said that it would not be easy for Sri Lanka to meet the conditions imposed by the global lender.

"The situation is such that they cannot be amended. There is no point in speaking to me. There is no point in speaking with the rulers. You should go to Washington and pose these questions, because they control the country and the economy."
