COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's Justice Minister Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said that the Anti-Terrorism Bill, that has led to much controversy, is expected to be passed in May.
Multiple factions have pointed out that the Anti-Terrorism Bill will enable the suppression of the media, including social media, and the control of professional, civil and political forces rather than the suppression of terrorism.
They highlighted that the Anti-Terrorism Bill paves the way to proscribe, jail, fine, and seize the assets of individuals and organizations.
Justice Minister Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said that upon considering the requests that have been put forward, it was decided to delay tabling the Anti-Terrorism Bill in Parliament, until the end of April or early May.
