Audit process hampered due to delays in submitting financial statements by government institutions - Auditor General

Colombo (News 1st) - The auditing of several government institutions have been hampered as their financial statements had not been submitted within the stipulated time period, stated Auditor General W. P. C. Wickramaratne. 

He said government institutions must submit their financial statements for audit by the 28th of February every year. The financial statements must be submitted by the secretaries of the ministries in charge of the relevant government institutions.

The Auditor General further stated that some government institutions are taking measures to submit financial statements for five-years at once. He explained that 

he was unable to accept the said reports reports as it is not submitted in the correct process.

He further says the delay to submit financial statements may also hinder the process to fulfil conditions of the International Monetary Fund.
