COLOMBO (News 1st) - The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has issued landslide warnings for the districts of Badulla, Kegalle and Kurunegala. There is a high risk of landslides occurring in these areas, with the possibility of mounds of rock and earth falling onto roads, homes, and other buildings.

The NBRO has urged residents of these areas to take immediate safety precautions. If you live in any of these districts, please take the following steps to protect yourself and your family:

  • Keep a close eye on weather updates and stay informed about any new warnings or alerts issued by local authorities.
  • If you live in an area that is prone to landslides, consider evacuating your home and moving to a safer location until the risk has passed.

  • If you cannot evacuate, take steps to fortify your home and make it as safe as possible. This might include reinforcing walls and roofs, clearing gutters and drains, and removing any loose objects from outside your home.

  • Be prepared for power outages and other disruptions. Stock up on emergency supplies, such as food, water, and medical supplies, and keep them easily accessible.

In addition to these precautions, please be mindful of the risks when traveling in these areas. If you are driving, be especially careful on steep or winding roads, and avoid traveling at night if possible. Stay alert for any signs of instability or loose soil, and be prepared to take evasive action if necessary.

The NBRO urges all residents of these districts to take these warnings seriously and to act quickly to protect themselves and their families.
