Two monks arrested for aiding a suspect to flee

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police arrested two monks for allegedly aiding a suspect to flee. The suspect in question was arrested at the Katunayake Airport recently for attempting to travel overseas under a false name.

Sri Lanka Police said two monks from a temple in Hettipola, aged 40 and 38, were arrested for aiding the suspect to flee.

Sri Lanka Police added that the court had imposed an overseas travel ban on the suspect, and he attempted to flee the country under a false name. 

According to Sri Lanka Police, the suspect was arrested by personnel attached to the Immigration and Emigration Department, and he fled during interrogation.

Sri Lanka Police said the 28-year-old man is wanted for multiple homicides.

The OIC of the Katunayake Police, a Police Sergeant, and a Police Constable were recently arrested over the incident.

After the trio were produced in the court, the OIC and Constable were released on bail, and the Police Sergeant was moved to remand custody.
