Criminal killed in police fire in Katunayake

COLOMBO (News 1st); A criminal wanted for multiple crimes was killed in police fire on Thursday (23) morning in Medawala, Katunayake.

Police Spokesperson SSP Nihal Thalduwa told News 1st that officers opened fire when the suspect attempted to hurl a bomb at them.

The deceased was identified as Dinesh Buddhika, a 30-year-old man from Heenatiyana.

It was reported that police officers were searching for a firearm that was use to commit a crime, and it was at that moment that the deceased suspect had attempted to hurl a bomb at the officers.

Sri Lanka Police said that the deceased suspect was wanted for homicides, extortion and other crimes.
