COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sri Lanka's Catholic Church rejected Former President Maithripala Sirisena's request for forgiveness on Wednesday (01).
Views regarding this were expressed at a media briefing held in Colombo today.
"One must seek forgiveness after accepting his mistake," Reverend Father Cyril Gamini stated. "However former President Maithripala Sirisena hasn't accepted his mistake," he went on to explain. Rev. Father Cyril Gamini stated that although the Supreme Court verdict clearly states he is at fault, the former President is saying he did no wrong and he is only at fault because of the failures of those he appointed.
"He is not accepting his mistake and therefore he has no right to seek forgiveness," Father Cyril Gamini said. Elaborating further, he stated that it is not ethical to apologize if he has done no wrong, and that the Former President's apology is merely words and it has no relevance to them.
