Colombo (News 1st) – Serbia's Novak Djokovic won his 10th Australian Open and equaled the world record for Grand Slam singles titles at 22, by beating third-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-5) Sunday at Melbourne Park's Rod Laver Arena.
Djokovic, 35, equaled legendary Spaniard Rafael Nadal's record and will be ranked number one in the world with this win, which has come in just 33 Grand Slam finals. It was his 5th consecutive Australian Open singles title.
He becomes only the 2nd men's player to win 10 titles at one Grand Slam, the other being Nadal who has 14 French Open titles.
This was just the second Grand Slam final for Tsitsipas, 24.
