Fatal Accident: Multiple deaths in Nuwara Eliya bus accident

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Several deaths were reported following a tragic accident that took place in Nuwara Eliya on Friday (20) evening.

The Nuwara Eliya hospital director confirmed to News 1st that seven people died, and 30 others were injured following the accident.

News 1st correspondent Sampath Jayalal said the accident took place at the Radella 'Keti" Road.

He said the road in which the accident took place was considered as a risky route, that is usually used by experienced drivers.

He also noted that the van was badly damaged in the accident.

A bus carrying a group of students from Thurstan College, Colombo on an education trip had veered off the road and fallen into a precipice in Radella, Nuwara Eliya.

Police Spokesperson SSP Nihal Thalduwa speaking to News 1st confirmed that the bus fell into a 50 feet deep precipice after it collided with a van.
