Overseas travel ban on Cabraal extended

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The overseas travel ban imposed on Former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal was extended to the 16th of February by Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela on Tuesday (17).

The Colombo Additional Magistrate issued the order when a private complaint filed by Former Provincial Governor Keerthi Thennakoon was taken up for consideration.

Counsel appearing for the Former Provincial Governor filed a preliminary objection in court, and counsel for Ajith Nivard Cabraal was ordered to file objections with the court on the 16th of February.

Thennakoon among his charges against Cabraal said the former central bank Governor was responsible for the economic crisis.

Cabraal was the 16th Governor of the Central Bank appointed in September 2021, whilst he created history as the first to enjoy Cabinet rank. Cabraal Resigned from his post on 4 April 2022.

He was the Senior Advisor to the Prime Minister on Economic Affairs from November 2019 to August 2020. Cabraal was also the 12th Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka from July 2006 to January 2015.
