Sri Lanka takes steps to prevent gold smuggling

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sri Lanka has issued an extraordinary gazette restricting the imports of gold over 22 carats as jewellery.
State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya tweeted that the decision was made to prevent gold smuggling.
"Special Gazette No. 2312/77 is issued restricting import of gold above 22 carats as jewellery to prevent gold smuggling," he tweeted.
