COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sri Lanka's Public Security Minister has instructed the top brass of Sri Lanka Police, including the Police Chief, to take all possible measures to curb murders, and drug trafficking.
Minister Tiran Alles has summoned the IGP and the Senior Police Officers to inquire into the progress on the investigation surrounding the murder of Colombo-based businessman Dinesh Schaffter.
The Minister had intructed Sri Lanka Police to disregard the status and position of anyone when taking action against murders and drug-related crimes.
CID takes over murder investigation:
The Criminal Investigations Department is probing the murder of Colombo-based businessman Dinesh Schaffter. A CID team was at the Borella Cemetary on Friday (16) morning for an inquiry.
Businessman Dinesh Schaffter was found with his limbs bound and choked inside his car at the Borella Public Cemetary, and died on Thursday (15) night at the National Hospital while being treated in the ICU.
He had told his wife that he was heading to Borella on Thursday (15), and Sri Lanka Police said that multiple calls made by his wife went unanswered.
After tracing the phone to the Public Cemetary in Borella, the wife of the late Dinesh Schaffter had called his work place and informed of the matter.
An employee was rushed to the Public Cemetary, where he found Dinesh Schaffter bound and bruised inside the car.
The employee together with a cemetary worker had then admitted Dinesh Schaffter to the Colombo National Hospital.
51-year-old Dinesh Schaffter, was a resident of Flower Road, Colombo 7.
