Over 16,000 tri-forces personnel were absent without official leave

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sri Lanka's Defence Ministry has granted a grace period for military officers and other ranks who had gone AWOL (absent without official leave) to legally be discharged from service.

The Defence Ministry said that 16,174 Sri Lanka Army personnel had gone AWOL while the number for the Sri Lanka Navy and the Sri Lanka Air Force is 1,061 and 967.

Servicemen/women who had gone AWOL (absent without official leave) will be given an amnesty until the 31st of December to report to their respective stations, and be legally discharged from service.
