England become first team to score over 500 runs on opening day of a test

COLOMBO (News 1st) - England has become the first and only team to post more than 500 runs on the opening day of a test match.

On Thursday (1) England won the toss and decided to bat first against Pakistan in the first of the three test series in Rawalpindi.

Four of the English batsmen smashed hundreds as the tourists closed play on day one on 506 runs for the loss of just four wickets.

Opener Zak Crawler smashed 122 of 111 balls, while his partner on the other end Ben Duckett made 107 of 110 deliveries.

Olli Pope then hammered 108 of 104, while Harry Brook who came in later made an unbeaten 101.

The Pakistani bowlers were hammered to all corners of the park and Zahid Mahmood went for 160 runs in his 23 overs, despite taking 2 wickets.

The economy rate was the same for the other Pakistani bowlers, as well.
