IUSF protests in Colombo - Met with full police force

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Inter-University Students Federation protested at multiple locations in Colombo on Friday (18) demanding the immediate release of student leaders Wasantha Mudalige, and Venerable Galwewa Siridhamma Thero.

A large police force had gathered at the Cinnamon Gardens Police ahead of the protests, and the Riot Police and Water Cannons were also stationed.

The protest march was to start from opposite the Nelum Pokuna. However, unexpectedly the students who were gathered their boarded multiple buses and headed to the UN Compound in Colombo.

Thereafter, the Inter-University Students Federation proceed to Colpetty passing Bauddhaloka Mawatha, and Bambalapitiya.

At the same time, another Inter-University Students Federation protest took place opposite the Terrorist Investigation Division in Narahenpita.

The protest marches that commenced from two separate locations proceeded along multiple roads.

One protest march was met with Tear Gas and Water Cannons close to the Prime Minister's Office located down Flower Road.

Thereafter both protest groups merged as one, and proceeded to the Welikada Prison to protest.

As Sri Lanka Police in full force reached the location, the protestors dispersed and moved close to the Dematagoda Railway Station.

They remained there for a while, and dispersed.
