Dr. Bandumathie Kottahachchi passes away

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Well-known retired civil servant Dr. (Mrs.) Bandumathie Kottahachchi passed away recently. 

Dr. Kottahachchi did yeoman service to Sri Lanka’s university education sector when she served as the Director for Planning and Research at the University Grants Commission, and also as a Consultant at the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration.
 
A past student of Visakha Vidyalaya, Dr. Kottahachchi was in fact the very first A-Level Math student at Visakha. She then became one of only about 10 women who pursued STEM degrees at the University of Colombo at the time.
 
A Colombo Plan scholar at the prestigious London School of Economics, Dr. Kottahachchi helped computerize university admissions in Sri Lanka for the first time, which resulted in drastically reducing processing time and expediting results. 
 
Dr. Kottahachchi also helped many young Sri Lankans on the path to successful careers as she was a volunteer mentor to many students over the years and helped them to identify higher education options and choices.
