COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sri Lanka is proposing to explore the possibility of exporting marijuana.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe delivering the 2023 Budget speech said that a committee of experts will be appointed to explore the possibility of cultivating marijuana in Sri Lanka ONLY for export purposes.

In addition, to regularize the Beedi industry and deter people from Beedi consumption, the President  proposed to impose a tax of Rs. 2 Per Beedi stick. 

In addition, other fees payable for obtaining of certificates and licenses will be increased, said the President.
