COLOMBO (News 1st) - MP Premnath C. Dolawatte presented a motion to Parliament on Tuesday (8) seeking to amend the Local Authorities Elections Act to allocate 25% of the nominations to those below the age of 35.

The MP informed the parliament that the younger generations must be given the opportunity to contest.

However, Leader of the National People's Power MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake warned that this amendment should be used to delay the Local Government Elections beyond March 2023.

SLFP MP Dayasiri Jayasekera also noted that the amendment should not be used to delay elections.
