Govt legitimacy crucial for IMF funds - GL

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Former Minister Professor G. L. Peiris said that the legitimacy of the government is a deciding factor for Sri Lanka to obtain assistance from the IMF.

"The government hopes to obtain the IMF funds before the end of this year. However, the IMF has repeatedly said that the legitimacy of the government is a crucial factor. They stressed the aid is for the people of the country and not the government," he told reporters.

The independent MP said that an election will decide on the mandate, but, the government wants to delay the elections. =
