COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Meteorological Department has issued an Amber alert for strong winds and rough seas, especially for multi-day boats in the deep of the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea areas.
According to the Meteorology Department, the depression over north Andaman Sea has concentrated in to a deep depression and located near latitude 15.60N and longitude 88.40E (East central Bay of Bengal) Sunday (23) morning.
It is very likely to move northwestward and intensify further into a cyclonic storm over central Bay of Bengal.
Subsequently, it is also very likely to move North-northeastwards and cross Bangladesh coast around 25th October.
Wind speeds will be (60-70) kmph and can increase up to 80 kmph in sea areas between (12N - 20N) and (85E – 100E). Heavy showers or thundershowers and rough or very rough seas can be expected in aforementioned sea areas.
