COLOMBO (News 1st) - State Minister of Finance, Shehan Semasinghe represented Sri Lanka at the Commonwealth Finance Ministers Meeting (CFMM), while the Central Bank Governor, Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe attended the Commonwealth Central Bank Governors Meeting (CCBG) held in Washington, USA.
The COVID-19 pandemic's negative macroeconomic repercussions were a significant topic of discussion during the CFMM meeting, along with possible solutions to the unprecedented budgetary constraints that will need to be overcome to attain the Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
Hence, the CFMM offered a uniquely informal forum for frank discussion, emphasizing the theme "A Road to Economic Recovery: A Macroeconomic Perspective," addressing the emerging economic issues relevant to our Commonwealth countries.
Accordingly, both meetings focused on the recovery trajectory for Commonwealth member states, particularly about challenges with debt and rising inflation, and on themes that are essential to the 56 member countries' economic and sustainable development.
