COLOMBO (News 1st) - State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya says the reports claiming that the salaries of State Employees are being slashed are false.

Attending a press conference held on Sunday (2), Siyambalapitiya said that such claims are not only baseless, but no such discussion had taken place.

He also said that the Treasury allocates Rs. 93 billion for the monthly salary of public servants in Sri Lanka, while Rs. 26 billion is allocated for pensions.

That is Rs. 119 billion per month, the State Minister said, which amounts to approximately Rs. 1,428 billion annually.

In contrast, the State Minister said that in 2021, the country's total  income is nearly Rs. 1,450 billion, which means that the total state revenue is the same as the amount being spent for salaries and pensions.
