Life Savers ponder over future of World Championships as VISA delay likely to cost medals

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Sri Lankan team that was to attend the Lifesaving World Championships 2022 in Italy have been forced to ground their hopes of flying to Europe due to a delay in obtaining VISAs.

The Lifesaving World Championships 2022 is taking place in Riccione, Italy in from 21st September to 2nd October 2022, and the Sri Lankan team of five Life Savers are still in Sri Lanka because they were not issued the VISA to fly to Italy.

Manoj Kumara, the Captain of the Sri Lanka Life Saving Team revealed that there was a delay in submitting documentation for the VISA because one player had raised an allegation against the entire team.

Asanka Nanayakkara, the Team Coash says that if the VISA issue is sorted, the team will be able to travel to Italy for the World Championships.

Making an emotion appeal, Nanayakkara requested the President, Prime Minister, or any other responsible official to intervene in the matter and solve the issue.
