USD for Special, & specific fertilizer importers?

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The importers of Special and specific fertilizers have made requests to release US Dollars to import products to Sri Lanka.

The Secretary of the Special and Specific Fertilizers Importers Association Sujeewa Valisundara points out that if the products are not available in Sri Lanka, it would have a serious negative impact on cultivations.

If it is not possible to provide dollars for letters of credit, the association requests that they be allowed to use open accounts.

Agriculture Secretary Rohana Pushpakumara said that the Central Bank and the President's Secretariat have been requested on many occasions to provide the necessary dollars for the importation of special fertilizers.

He further said that if the concerned association requests the open accounts, the request will also be forwarded to the relevant institutions.
