COLOMBO (News 1st); Former Minister Basil Rajapaksa left for the United States of America on Friday (9) afternoon.
On the 2nd of September 2022, Sri Lanka's Supreme Court granted permission to Former Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa to travel overseas until the 15th of January 2023.
The five-judge bench granted permission following submissions made by the Counsel for Rajapaksa, who stated that the Former Finance Minister expects to travel overseas for medical treatment next week and to attend to some personal matters.
The request to travel overseas was made when the Fundamental Rights petition that allege that the country is currently in a state of bankruptcy and the people are in dire straits due to the unwise economic policies and inefficient administration pursued by the respondents, was taken up in court on Friday (2).
