COLOMBO (News 1st); The National Water Supply and Drainage Board has decided to charge 2.5% late fee from Government institutions that fail to pay their water bills for more than three months.
The Deputy General Manager of the NWS&DB Piyal Padmanatha said that previously, no late fee was charged from public institutions.
Accordingly, Padmanatha said that an amnesty period will be provided to settle their water bill by taking funds from the Treasury, however, the late fees will be charged after a period of three months.
Meanwhile, Padmanatha stated that according to the agreements to be made in the future, councillors who have also not paid their water bills for more than two months will have their water supply disconnected from their official quarters.
He stated that the Secretary of the Public Administration Ministry has informed the Speaker in writing about collecting the arrears from MPs who have already failed to pay their water bills.
Padmanatha said that the existing arrears of MPs water bills is at Rs. 13 million.
