Ship carrying 21,000MT fertilizer under Indian assistance reaches SL

COLOMBO (News 1st): A ship carrying 21,000 MT of urea in line with the Indian loan assistance, reached the island last night (19).

Methsiri Wijegunawardena, Chairman of the Commercial Fertilizer Company said that the stock of fertilizer will be utilized for tea and maize cultivation.

Urea fertilizer will be issued to tea growers through the Tea Small Holders Development Authority.

Accordingly, Wijegunawardena said that steps will be taken to provide a 50 kg bundle of urea fertilizer to the tea farmers at a price of Rs. 15,000 each.

Fertilizer will be released to maize farmers through Agricultural Development Centres.

Steps were taken to import 65,000 MT of urea fertilizer under the Indian loan assistance, of which 40,000 MT were previously brought to the island.
