Mervyn released without bail in case filed on 2007 incident

COLOMBO (News 1st); Former Sri Lankan Minister Mervyn Silva was arrested by detectives on Thursday (18) morning and was released by courts in the afternoon.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department arrested Former Minister Mervyn Silva on Thursday (18) afternoon over an incident where he forcibly entered the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation on the 27th of December 2007.

Thereafter Mervyn Silva was produced to the Hultsdorf Magistrate's Court on the charges of forced entry, causing minor injuries, intimidation, and unlawful assembly.

The Additional Magistrate announced that it would be sufficient for the suspect to appear in court on the 16th of November.

The Criminal Investigations Department told the Court that Mervyn Silva was arrested based on the advice of the Attorney General.

Counsel appearing for Mervyn Silva said that Mervyn Silva voluntarily appeared at the Criminal Investigations Department upon being informed to visit the CID.
