Mass protests against repression today (9)

COLOMBO (News 1st); Political Parties and many organizations are scheduled to hold a protest in Colombo and many parts of the country today (9). 

The Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court on Monday (8) rejected a request to issue an order to ban the protest organized on Tuesday (9) by Political Parties and various organizations at the Vihara Maha Devi Park in Colombo.

The request was made by the Cinnamon Gardens Police and it was rejected by Colombo Chief Magistrate Nandana Amarasinghe.

The Chief Magistrate emphasized that if a breach of the peace or if property damage is reported during the protest, Sri Lanka Police has the power to take the necessary action.
