(Interfax) – Moldova will introduce water rationing due to an unprecedented drought, the Moldovan Environment Ministry said on Tuesday.

The ministry held a meeting with officials of state establishments to discuss measures to rationalize support and protect water resources amid the drought, the report said.

"Due to the hydrological drought faced by Moldova, the ministry recommended that enterprises that supply water to the country's buildings and houses to allow access to the water supply only during certain hours. Namely, to switch off the water supply from 9:00 a.m. to noon and from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. It's necessary to replenish water resources amid the drought," the report said.

The agency called on suppliers to regulate pressure in pipelines to the minimal optimal level, thereby ensuring supply to consumers.

Recommendations to the population and state establishments on saving water in a critical situation have been published on the ministry site.
