T-56 Assault Rifle stolen during protest, found in Diyawanna Oya

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lankan authorities have recovered a T-56 Assault Rifle that was stolen during a protest on the 9th of July 2022, at the Polduwa Junction close to the Parliament.

Sri Lanka Police said a T-56 Assault Rifle and an empty magazine were discovered in the Diyawanna Oya towards Parliament close to the Samanala Bridge in Rajagiriya.

The Police Media Division said the weapon and magazine were discovered by Sri Lanka Navy Divers, and the Police Spokesperson SSP Attorney-at-Law Nihal Thalduwa speaking to News 1st said the area was inspected due to suspicions.

He also said that when the same area was searched earlier several tear gas ammo was located.
