COLOMBO (News 1st); The Catholic Bishops of Sri Lanka emphasize that rejected leaders should not be entrusted anymore with the Governance of the country.
Issuing a statement, the Catholic Bishops Conference of Sri Lanka has expressed its grave concern over the unprecedented political turmoil that is prevailing in Sri Lanka at present.
Moreover, the Catholic Bishops point out that the country is in deep crisis and is in an unstable situation politically, economically and socially, and the current crisis has crippled our Motherland totally.
Therefore, the Catholic Bishops Conference has urged all Parliamentarians to set aside their political differences and agendas, and to come to a consensus to appoint an interim President and a Prime Minister who are honest, and is able to muster everyone’s confidence.
If not, the Catholic Bishops Conference has warned that the situation will be aggravated and the people will lose confidence in the already elected members of the Parliament.
Moreover, the Catholic Bishops of Sri Lanka also urge the responsible leaders to fix a timeframe to conduct the General Elections, allow the people to express their franchise freely by enabling them to choose their representatives who could lead the country into the future.
