Daughter of Dr. Maheshi Wijerathna Released On Bail

COLOMBO (News 1st); Daughter of Dr. Maheshi Wijerathna, a specialist at Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital who is currently remanded, was released on bail today.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali Jayatunga ordered the Suspect to be released on a surety bail of Rs. 500,000.

The Keselwatte Police arrested the suspect for issuing death threats to officials of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption last Friday.

This case is scheduled to be recalled on August 27th.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Tanuja Lakmali Jayatunga ordered that Dr. Maheshi Wijerathna, a specialist at Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital, remain in remand custody until July 15 yesterday.

Dr. Wijerathna is currently remanded for allegedly selling neurosurgical equipment, including External Ventricular Drains (EVDs) and VP Shunts, to patients at grossly inflated prices through a private company she was affiliated with.
