Govt should Not Try and Curtail The People's Right of Expression - Sajith

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Peaceful people's protests against the government are an expression of democracy, said Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa.

He said under no circumstance, should the government use any untoward means of controlling or barring the people's freedom of peaceful expression, including by causing any unlawful interruption to telecommunications and data, that is used by the public for free speech.

Any such unlawful attempt, would result in a further deterioration of democracy in Sri Lanka and will cause the international community to further distance itself from Sri Lanka, warned the Opposition Leader.

Those in positions of power should never impede on the peoples rights guaranteed by our constitution.
