COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lankan Railways says that 27 trains are operating on Wednesday (6).

The Deputy General Manager of the Railways Gamini Seneviratne said that 27 office trains for long-distance service and short-distance service were added to operate in the morning.

Further, 21 trains were scheduled to operate in the morning, but were cancelled since employees did not report to work due to lack of fuel.

Meanwhile, the General Manager of Railways Dhammika Jayasundara said that the trade union action which has been started by saying that fuel was not provided to the railway controllers is very unfair in the current situation.

He said that even if arrangements were made to provide fuel to the controllers coming from distant areas, it would NOT be practical to provide fuel to the entire 11,000 railway employees.
