25 people arrested for illegal migration attempt

COLOMBO (News 1st); Police arrested 25 people in Marawila for attempting to migrate illegally.

The Police stated that among the arrested were 12 women, 13 men and 7 children, who were all identified as residents of Batticaloa.

Police arrested the group afer they were dropped off at a lodge in Marawila.

A News 1st correspondent quoted the group stating they attempted to migrate illegally as they faced difficulties to survive under the current economic crisis in Sri Lanka.

The traffickers had obtained Rs. 200,000/- each from the group.

The group will be produced to the Marawila court today (03).
