EU Ambassadors urge President to send firm message on future economic plans

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ambassadors representing the European Union has requested the President to consider the countries in the region as close friends of the country, and assured continued support to the nation.

The members of the EU delegation met with the President at the President's Office today (24), and pointed out that they can extend assistance by sending a firm message on future economic plans to the international community.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, while pointing out that 90% of the country's population resides in rural areas and 75% of it engaging in agriculture, said that by providing the necessary fertilizer and fuel to the farming community, it is possible to resolve many issues such as the upcoming food crisis.

Moreover, uncultivated lands have been granted to those who are interested in cultivation, while a fair and a just method has been observed with regard to the humanitarian steps taken for reconciliation after the war, President added.

The delegation consisted of EU Ambassador in Sri Lanka, Denis Chaibi, French Ambassador Eric Lavertu, Ambassador of Italy Rita Mannella, Ambassador of Norway Trine Jøranli Eskedal, Ambassador of Netherlands Tanja Gonggrijp, Ambassador of Germany Holger Seubert, Ambassador of Romania Victor Chiujdea, Ambassador of Turkey Rakibe Şekercioğlu, and Ambassador of Switzerland Dominik Furgler.
