Committee probing recent riots obtains statement from fmr Army Commander

COLOMBO (News 1st); The committee appointed to probe incidents of negligence on the part of the security forces during the recent riots in various parts of the country has obtained a statement from the Chief of Defense Staff, former Army Commander General Shavendra Silva.

A Spokesperson said that statements have been obtained from about 40 members of the security forces, including the commanders of the three forces.

A member of the committee also stated that it had planned to submit its report to the President, next week.

The committee is chaired by Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda, and comprises of General Daya Ratnayake and Marshal of the Air Force Roshan Goonetileke.
