COLOMBO (News 1st); The continuation of daily activities at the Maharagama Apeksha Hospital is currently at risk due to the fuel crisis.
Consultant Oncological Surgeon Dr. Kanishka de Silva stated that the hospital staff, including doctors are facing difficulties in reporting to duty owing to the current fuel crisis.
He further stated that if the authorities fail to make necessary arrangements to supply fuel for doctors and hospital staff, daily activities at the hospital could be disrupted in the future.
Director of the Apeksha Hospital Dr. Aruna Jayasekara also mentioned that due to the fuel crisis, doctors as well as hospital staff are facing difficulties in reporting to duty adding that a letter was issued to ensuring that they are supplied fuel on a priority basis.
However, doctors and hospital staff are facing issues in obtaining fuel on priority basis, due to long queues at filling stations.
Secretary to the Health Ministry Janaka Sri Chandragupta said the Ministry of Power and Energy has been requested to supply fuel to the medical staff including doctors on a priority basis.
