173 prisoners to be pardoned for Poson Day

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Justice, Prisons and Constitutional Reforms states that steps have been taken to pardon 173 prisoners on the occasion of the Poson Full Moon Poya Day, tomorrow (13).

The prisoners are being pardoned on the recommendation of the Minister Dr. Wijayadasa Rajapakshe, President's Counsel.

Thus, 141 prisoners will be released due to the abolition of the sentence and 30 prisoners due to the reduction of 14 days from their sentence.

The highest number of 23 inmates will be released from Welikada Prison.

In addition prisoners at Kuruwita, Mahara, Negombo, Weerawila, Wariyapola, Bogambara, Anuradhapura, Kalutara, Colombo Magazine Prison, Thaldena, Watareka, Badulla, Matara, Angunakolapelessa, Polonnaruwa, Kegalle, Batticaloa, Moneragala, Pallansena, Vavuniya, Jaffna, Galle, Trincomalee and Jaffna prisons will also be pardoned.
