COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has requested Stephen Twigg, the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) to visit Sri Lanka to conduct an inquiry into the violence against MPs, as well as the violence at Galle Face on the 9th of May.
“The murder (of the late Amarakeerthi Athukorala) is a blow to Parliament. This needs to be investigated in an unbiased manner,” said the Prime Minister during the condolence debate in Parliament on Friday (10).
The Prime Minister reprimanded the comments made by TNA MP Shanakiyan Rajaputhiran Rasamanickam, who had said that houses of MPs were set on fire because votes were cast in favor of matters that are detrimental to the country.
The Premier said the MP must withdraw his comments and urged the Speaker to conduct an investigation into these comments.
