Deshabandu Thennakoon : Public Services Commission calls for transfer recommendation

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Public Services Commission has requested the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security to immediately submit his recommendation on the transfer of Senior DIG in charge of the Western Province Deshabandu Thennakoon.

The Attorney General had instructed the Inspector General of Police on the 23rd of May 2022, to immediately transfer Senior DIG Deshabandu Thennakoon to prevent unnecessary intervention into the investigations taking place on the 9th May 2022 attacks on peaceful protest sites.

Recently, the Fort Magistrate ordered the Inspector General Police to explain why the instructions of the Attorney General are not being implemented.

The Public Services Commission said the decision was made to call for recommendations based on the directive made by the Attorney General and the submissions made to the court.

The Public Services Commission in a letter to the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security had called for a recommendation on the transfer of Senior DIG Thennakoon, and conduct a preliminary inquiry if necessary.
