'Next three weeks are going to be tough' - Prime Minister appeals to use fuel & LP Gas sparingly

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said the next three weeks will be a tough period for the country with regard to sourcing Fuel and LP Gas. "it is important that we use fuel and gas sparingly during this period," he appealed in a special statement to Parliament on Tuesday (7). The Prime Minister urged the general public to refrain from unnecessarily stockpiling fuel and gas, and after the next three weeks the government will take measures to provide fuel and gas in a proper manner. "We need to be patient during the next three weeks that is going to be tough," he said. According to the Prime Minister Sri Lanka spends USD 500 Million per month, to import fuel and for the next six months Sri Lanka must source USD 3.3 Billion for fuel imports. The Prime Minister did not cast aside the idea of fuel rationing in his statement, noting that introducing such a system would be considered. He also said that Sri Lanka spend USD 40 Million on LP Gas imports per month, and for the next six months Sri Lanka must be in possession of USD 250 Million for LP Gas imports.
