CEB to increase electricity tariff?

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) said that the proposal to increase the electricity tariff will be submitted to the Cabinet next Monday (6).

The Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board M.M.C Ferdinando said the increase was aimed at reducing the CEB's unlimited losses.

At present the annual income of the CEB is Rs.276 Billion, while the cost has risen to Rs.750 Billion, he said.

Meanwhile, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) said that permission has been granted to cut off electricity for one hour on Saturday (4).

The commission further said there would be no power cuts on Sunday (5).
